Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, ***: an arcade game sold for $69.99, and not a very good one at that. I assume a lot of the hype must be because so much of the fanbase for playstation franchise are dads now and if i had a kid maybe i’d dig sharing it with him, but I don’t have a kid and everything about this feels like a super polished 2021 version of a pinball machine at the gas station truck stop. Except back when my dad took me on these rest stops, I only had a couple of minutes, and a couple of quarters, and the thrill was making as much as possible of a repetitive thing before time / money was up. At home, as an adult, this was nice relaxing tedium to end the day for a few days. But I prefer RDR2 for this task long term. There’s more grit, more texture, more riding around and shooting anything that pisses me off, and the NPCs look more like people that piss me off in real life, so I am into that.
Worse than: Astro’s Playroom Better than: Ratchet and Clank (PS4)
